The SIMF RFP asks for submissions for a standard that addresses the federation of information across different representations, levels of abstraction, communities, organizations, viewpoints, and authorities. Federation, in this context, means using independently conceived information sets together for purposes beyond those for which the individual information sets were originally defined.

A departement of the U.S. DoD has employed an approach based on ontological modeling with UML, known as “OntoUML”. This approach addresses some of the requirements of SIMF and both validates the approach and can provide input into the standards effort.
[A document on this approach is available here.]

This page is intended for use by stakeholders to identify standards or approaches that may already fully or partily fill the needs of federated information modeling. Each should be in a separate wiki page for discussion. In nominating potential solutions gaps should also be identified.
