OMG TC Meeting Santa Clara, December 8-12, 2008

ManTIS plenary: Thu, December 11, 09:00-12:00

Agenda items:

Mantis meeting minutes, December 11, 2008, taken by Manfred Koethe

Bernd Wenzel convened the meeting and discussed the agenda. (Agenda approved as is).

Steven Vetterman (PROSTEP) presenting the existing (German) Requirements Interchange Format (RIF) industrial standard.

RIF was developed on behalf of the German Automotive industry as a vendor-neutral requirements exchange vehicle. RIF is specified by an UML metamodel and XML Schema. RIF in its current form is in daily use in Germany.

The RIF community has now the desire to standardize RIF on international level through the OMG. Intention is to make RIF an added value to SysML. The plan is to change the RIF metamodel to make it MOF compliant. Discussion (started by David Price) if RIF supports structured requirements / requirements propoerties, or if requirements are just text. As David said, timing for the RIF effort is good since SysML 2.0 initial phase is just starting. Given the need for harmonization, a RFC might not be possible, however, the proposed timing appears to be well-aligned with the upcoming SysML 2.0 effort. The group agrees to consult Sandy Friedenthal.

David Price: Need a paper outlining what the differences to SysML capapabilities are. Also INCOSE working on SysML – AP233 mapping. RIF need harmonization .

Sandy suggested to file an issue (maybe of a RIF subset) against the SysML RTF.

Sandy: There is a whitepaper on RIF – SysML integration on the SE DSIG webpage.

Conrad Bock presenting Ontological Product Modeling for Collaborative Design.

This was a great presentation – we need to continue this in a future meeting.

PLM Services V 2. Lutz Lammer; mantis/2005-06-02

AB Reviewed the RFP on June 20, 2005. Several comments were received. PLM Services V1 adopted in April 2004, finalized April 2005. Current V2 focus is on digital engineering change request between supplier and OEM. ISO 10303-214 (Specification Control and Process Planning) development prompts V 2 effort. Scope of V2 aligned with Conformance Class CC21 in AP 214. Some modeling issues and optimized queries to be included in effort.

KBE Services for PLM; document mantis/2005-06-03. Pablo Bermell-Garcia.

Draft RFP discussed. It will focus on: Rules, Engineering Data Abstraction, and Relationships between engineering artifacts.

Virtual Research Lab / Knowledge Community in Production; mantis/2005-06-04. Uwe Kaufman.

Exploring issues in standardization research.

Edward Barkmeyer, NIST; mantis/2005-06-06

Transformation of EXPRESS Models Using OMG Technologies – migrate Express models to MDA. Ed described an effort to develop a UML / MOF model of EXPRESS. Effort may lead to an RFP or RFC. A substantial portion of the mapping has been started and an initial draft may be available in early July 2005.
