Welcome to the OMG Space Domain Task Force (SDTF).

Next Event

The next OMG Technical Meeting is in Boston, MA, June 18-22, 2018. The Space DTF will meet in Boston, the agenda is in work. The SDTF will meet Wednesday morning+afternoon and Thursday morning of the meeting week. Make your plans soon, the Early Bird registration rates end May 11th and the hotel block discount rate ends May 28th.

Mission

Space professionals committed to greater interoperability, reduction in costs, schedule, and risk for space applications through increased space standardization.

Goals

  • Clarify space, satellite and ground system requirements
  • Provide a transparent space standards development environment, open to participation by all.
  • Encourage the development and use of Model-Driven specifications that allow future-proofing of space systems.
  • Encourage continued space industry member participation to leverage existing OMG specifications.

Ongoing Activities

  • Use the Object Management Group (OMG) technology adoption process to specify interfaces for software components, services and frameworks in space applications.
  • Leverage existing OMG specifications.
  • Involve all interested members of the OMG in the OMG Space Domain Task Force.
  • Issue RFIs, RFPs and RFCs for technology relevant to space.
  • Identify relevant standards, architectures, research and technologies in space applications.
  • Assist and advise the Liaison Sub-Committee regarding its relationship with related Standards Organizations and Consortia.
  • Participate and present in other space industry consortia to encourage further OMG participation.

Specifications

  • XTCE (XML Telemetric and Command Exchange)
  • GEMS (Ground Equipment Monitoring Service)
  • SOLM (Spacecraft Operations Language Metamodel)
  • XUSP (XTCE US Government Satellite Conformance Profile)

Work-In-Process

  • XTCE 1.2 Revision Task Force Report was accepted by the Architecture Board at the Reston, VA meeting and the email/fax vote for the Domain Technology Committee is in-process.
  • C2MS The Command and Control Messaging Specification RFC was accepted for its first reading and comments are being collected.

Previous Meeting

The OMG SpaceDTF met in Reston, VA March 21-22, 2018. Here are the meeting highlights:

XTCE

XTCE 1.2 proceeds towards adoption/publication. The RTF report was delivered at the Reston meeting and the adoption vote is in-process

C2MS

Goddard Mission Services Evolution Center (GMSEC) has drafted a model-based satellite command & control message specification (C2MS) that was submitted to OMG as an RFC in Reston. This model specification is intended to support new platform-specific implementations of the messages and exchange patterns, including the US Air Force Enterprise Ground Services (EGS) initiative.

CubeSat Reference Model

The RFP for a CubeSat Reference Model was presented to the SDTF and OMG Architecture Board (AB) at the Reston meeting. The AB provided some recommendations for improving the requirements and scope sections and SDTF members are revising the RFP for future publication. The desired CubeSat Reference Model is a SysML-based model that provides university, non-profit, and commercial organizations a jump-start in engineering a new satellite mission system with a standard SysML framework for capturing the stakeholder needs, mission requirements, requirements traceability, and engineering studies. We expect that members of the Space Systems Working Group at the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) will submit the model that they have developed, but there may be other OMG members with satellite systems engineering models that would be responsive to the RFP.
