The following is a summary of the Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Workshop held on January 24-25, 2015 (Saturday and Sunday) at the INCOSE International Workshop (IW) in Torrance, CA.
There were additional MBSE-related meetings on January 26-27, 2015 (Monday and Tuesday), some of which are identified below.
Reference to the MBSE Workshop can also be found on the INCOSE website at http://www.cvent.com/events/incose-international-workshop-2015/custom-35-52e6970c3afd4aa68c27ba8eeb8fde1a.aspx .
Presentations and results from past INCOSE MBSE Workshops can be found at the bottom of the MBSE Wiki at MBSE Events and Related Meetings.
Workshop Objectives and Agenda. The Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday, January 24-25, 2015 as part of the INCOSE International Workshop in Torrance, California. This 2 day workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the latest MBSE activities and applications, and to network with others involved in MBSE.
The workshop includes breakout sessions that are intended to inform and engage the participants in a broad range of MBSE related topics. The breakout session topics include both emerging modeling technologies and standards, modeling practices, and modeling approaches used in particular application domains. Each breakout session includes a combination of informative presentations, demonstrations where applicable, and group discussions on the potential impacts on the state of MBSE practice, and the associated challenges and future directions. The specific breakout session topics include:
MBSE 101
Model Technologies and Standards
Modeling Practices
Domain Specific Modeling Applications
The workshop agenda is included below. A thought provoking keynote presentation will be given following the introduction, which begins promptly on Saturday at 10:30 AM. The breakout sessions begin after lunch on Saturday and continue through Sunday at 5:00 PM. Some of the breakout sessions will be repeated to give opportunities to participate in multiple breakouts. An MBSE Reception will be held from 5:30 - 6:30 PM on Sunday. We look forward to your participation and contribution to this event.

The following tables include the MBSE activity teams, challenge teams and related working groups (WGs) that are meeting on Monday and/or Tuesday following the above MBSE Workshop on Saturday and Sunday. The MBSE-related POCs are shown here also. Each POC is responsible for arranging their own meeting rooms, posting their agendas and related contents, and so on. This approach is similar to what we initiated at IW14.
As of Jan 24, 2015: The topics shown here are finalized to occur at the dates/times shown. More topics may be added, so check back here for the latest. Please send an email to Russell.Peak - at - gatech.edu to provide any further updates to these tables below.
For people attending in-person: See the IW15 program you receive at the registration desk for specifics about meeting room locations.
Time | Agenda Theme/Link | Group | MBSE POC |
---|---|---|---|
08:00-17:00 | IW15 Update - Agenda | NAFEMS-INCOSE Systems Modeling and Simulation WG (SMSWG) | Roger Burkhart |
08:30-17:00 | Ask POC | Tool Integration and Interoperability (TII) WG | John Nallon |
11:00-12:00 | Ask POC | Space Systems WG (SSWG) - MBSE team | Dave Kaslow |

13:00-15:00 | IW15 Update - Agenda | MBSE Pattern-based SE (PBSE) Challenge Team | Bill Schindel |
13:30-17:00 | Ask POC | Model-Based Conceptual Design WG - (link2) | Quoc Do / Kevin Robinson |
NOTE: Also be aware that more and more MBSE/SysML-related content is naturally becoming part of the “traditional” existing INCOSE working groups (WGs). For example, the Space Systems WG, the Agile/Lean WG, the Affordability WG, and so on (not all of which are explicitly listed here). Therefore we encourage IW15 attendees to look around for such groups, and/or to join in other groups to collaborate and explore how to benefit from MBSE technology together.
See above note under Monday January 26, which applies here for Tuesday also.
