Tool Vendors - INCOSE MBSE initiative encourages tool developer participation and collaboration in the MBSE effort. Collaboration can take many forms such as participating in a usability study, providing tool licenses for challenge teams, or providing presentations to advance the state MBSE. Tool Vendors can use this site to provide tool support to INCOSE MBSE Teams, and MBSE Teams can use this site to identify their tool needs.

Please note that OMG and INCOSE do not endorse or promote any specific vendor. This is a simple forum to connect challenge teams and activity teams together with vendors for specific projects. All vendors can offer services. Any working group can ask for support or help.

Help is available on how to edit and setup new pages for this WIKI on the [MBSE WIKI Help page]

Collaborative Modeling Environment Requirements

Goal: Provide a collaborative modeling environment that facilitates initial setup of a modeling team, addition of new members, on-going collaboration among team members, and sharing results with the broader MBSE community.

R1.0 - Ability to manage licenses for MBSE tools.

R1.1 - Team Members can find and use licenses provided by tool vendors to install MBSE tools. (Team members are any INCOSE member. Team members are any person invited by an INCOSE member)
R1.2 - Team members have immediate access to install and use the MBSE tool.
R1.3 - Vendors can provide licenses for tools including version upgrades.
R1.4 - Vendors can monitor usage of licenses.
R1.5 - Vendors can not view or change the licenses of other tool vendors.

R2.0 - Ability to manage models.

R2.1 - Team Members can checkin and checkout models and related modleing artifacts (documentation, reports, ..)
R2.2 - Model versions are maintained with applicable metadata (e.g., version number, who changed, when changed, summary of change)
R2.3 - Team Members can find and view a version of a model.

R3.0 - Ability to collaborate in real-time virtual meetings.

R3.1 - Team members can schedule meetings.
R3.2 - Team members have audio communications (e.g., voip or shared dial up number)
R3.3 - Team members can share a live view of the model. (Shared desktop)

R4.0 - Ability to view and comment on the model in a web browser.

Share Model Tests Cases

[] Can I install a lite version of drop box [] Capture costs

Case 1 - Create new model.

Case 2 - Modify and and update the model.

Case 3 - Check for edit conflict. Can 2 people edit the same file at the same time. How are conflicts resolved?

Case 4 - Collaborate - Comment on the model. Comment on the mode file in general. Comment on a specific version of a model.

Cast 5 - View and restore versions.

Case 6 - Find models - Able to describe (define, categorize and/or tag) and find models.

Collaborative Modeling Environment Approaches

Store Models

Solution 1 INCOSE Alfresco (library.incose.org)

  • CASE 1 Add - Log into library.incose.org. Search for “shared model repository”. Open the shared model repository folder. Drag your model file onto this folder. It will be uploaded.
  • MODIFY - Log into library.incose.org. Hover over the document to modify. Select More → Edit Offline. The file is downloaded. Modify the file. In Alfresco, select More → Upload new version. Select the file you just edited. Upload it. (Note, Alfresco locks files that you are editing and unlocks them when you are done. This prevents users from loosing changes if someone uploads on old version.)
  • Advantages - Has file locking. Can add comments. Can restore/view old versions.

Solution 2 - Use Google to store model documents. Roger Burkhart suggested looking at System Modeling and Simulation Working Group. The technology is SMSWG collaborative community. They use Google Sites.

Solution 3 - Use Google code and Github to share models.

Solution 4 - Files anywhere

Solution 5 - Drop box [pack rat option for CM](David Lempia to check)

  • Drop box does have CM on the paid versions.

Solution 6 - Google Drive

  • ADD - Open google drive in your favorite web browser. Drag a model to Google drive from your file system to upload. Change the share permissions to share the file with anybody that has the link. Change the permissions so other people can edit the file. Add the link to your WIKI page. (See below)
  • MODIFY - There is no way to edit the document directly. View the wiki page to make sure no other users are editing the model. To notify other users that you are editing the model, add a note to the wiki page. In google drive, right click on the file and select download. Make changes. Re-upload the file to google drive. Change the note on the wiki page to indicate that you are done editing.
  • Google Drive Example https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6imPXDHGoh8LXd4bnZXaEQ2OWc/edit?usp=sharing ====Share Licenses==== Solution 1 - Bjorn has a Web Faction linux server with an open port. He is willing to use his server to test the No-Magic licenses. Solution 2** - Contact Ryan Mortimer. Can we have access to and INCOSE server to host the licenses? Sent e-mail on Nov 19. I sent an additional request on Dec 17.
