SMSWG Meeting #30 (2019-06-11)

Meeting #30 of the NAFEMS-INCOSE Systems Modeling & Simulation Working Group (SMSWG) was held Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM EDT for one hour as an online meeting.

Agenda for meeting

Time (ET)TopicPresenter
11:00-12:00 Semantic MBD Workflows – Why QIF Matters (A Roadmap for Digital Manufacturing) Daniel Campbell and Tomasz Luniewski (Capvidia)
11:00-12:00 MBD for CMM Daniel Campbell and Tomasz Luniewski (Capvidia)
Agenda and Other Topics Frank Popielas (SMS_ThinkTank)

Frank Popielas hosted the meeting and introduced the speakers for the main presentation.

Presentation Summary

This discussion looks into end-to-end workflows as part of a Model Based Enterprise and Industry 4.0. It will highlight the importance of the usage of standards, like ANSI QIF.

Speaker Bios

Daniel Campbell, Director of Business Development at Capvidia North America, USA ([email protected])

Mr. Daniel Campbell is the Director of Business Development at Capvidia. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of digital metrology. Before Capvidia, Daniel was a Principal and the Software Director at Metrosage, where he had the primary responsibility for the design and development of the Pundit CMM measurement uncertainty simulation software. Since then, Pundit CMM has become a part of the Capvidia suite of solutions. Daniel has a solid foundation in software design and dimensional metrology. His interests in metrology have led him to lead various working groups on standards in this area for ANSI QIF. Daniel is currently the Chair of the QIF Working Group, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Dimensional Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC). Daniel has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from the University of San Francisco.

Tomasz Luniewski, CEO and founder of CAPVIDIA NV, Headquarters, Belgium ([email protected])

Tomasz Luniewski has graduated in 1979 at the Faculty of Machine Design at KTH Royal Technical University of Stockholm (Master of Science degree). 1979-1984 worked at LKB Produkter AB (medical instruments) as design and research engineer. 1982-1996 at LMS International (now Siemens) Belgium holding over years different positions ranging from software development, technical support, sales, marketing and management functions (director of marketing). Since 1994 own software engineering company CAPVIDIA (previous TESIS Software) specialized in the development of engineering software applications for 3D CAD MBD and CFD simulation. Active participation in organization developing standards such as DMSC – QIF, PDES-STEP and ISO, over 20 years’ experience in CAD data interoperability now focused on digital transformation of engineering processes to support Industry 4.0 and MBD/MBE concepts.

Frank Popielas concluded the meeting with discussion and other topics. These include a one-day workshop on “Model-Based Engineering: What Is It & How Will It Impact Engineering Simulation?” to be held Oct. 1 in Columbus, OH.

A recording of the meeting is available on the SMSWG Collaborative Community. (SMSWG member access required. Request membership using the request form on the NAFEMS SMSWG page.)
