**Secure Sockets Lsyer** (SSL) is a standard [[ddsf:public:guidebook:06_append:glossary:p:protocol|protocol]] used for the secure transmission of documents over a network. Developed by Netscape, SSL technology creates a secure link between a Web [[ddsf:public:guidebook:06_append:glossary:s:server|server]] and browser to ensure private and integral data transmission.
