====== 4.2.1.4 Network Platforms ====== Return to Platforms A DIDO, by definition, is a collection of networked nodes. Traditionally, the network is assumed to be dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:e:ethernet with nodes connected over dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:l:lan and/or a dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:w:wan using a dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:n:netdev. The connections can either be: * dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:w:wired using \\ • dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:n:netcabling \\ • dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:u:usb * dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:w:wireless using dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:w:wifi **Note:** for Private, permissioned DIDOs, there may be explicit bans on wireless or even USB connections. However, there is a lot of growth and development using other wireless connections other than Ethernet or USB. For example: * dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:b:bluetooth * dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:z:zigbee * dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:n:nfc Consequently, it is important to identify the kinds of connections that are required to support the DIDO. Some examples are: * Many contactless payments systems use dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:r:rfid and NFC * Many supply chains use RFID * Many smart home efforts use WiFi and zigbee * Many automobiles use Bluetooth to connect phones, make queries, play music, etc. /**=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- /* To add a discussion page to this page, comment out the line that says ~~DISCUSSION:off~~ */ ~~DISCUSSION:on|Outstanding Issues~~ ~~DISCUSSION:off~~
