**Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)** is a fundamental [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:p:protocol]] used on the [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:i:internet]] in order to control data transfer to and from a hosting [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:s:server]], in communication with a web browser [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:c:client]].

HTTP is the essential means of communication between web users and the servers or services that maintain the websites themselves.
