Its internal cryptocurrency is **''DOT''**. 

The network uses a [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:p:proof_of_stake_pos]] c[[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:c:consensus_algorithm]]. The [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:p:protocol]] uses [dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:b:babe]], is derived from Ouroboros. The protocol was adapted by the Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood and is developed by the Web3 Foundation with the initial implementation by Parity Technologies.

In June 2021, Coinbase added Polkadot to its cryptocurrency trading platform.
