The data values associated with a [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:t:topic|Topic]], passed between applications are known as [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:d:ddssample|DDS Samples]]. A **sample** represents an atom of data information as returned by a [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:d:data_reader|Data Reader’s]] read/take operations. It consists of two parts; SampleInfo and the Data itself. The Data part is the data as produced by the [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:p:publisher|Publisher]]. The Sample Info contains additional information 
related to the data provided by the [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:d:dds]] such as a unique [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:k:key|key]] and its associated [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:q:qos|QoS]] policies.
