**Transport layer security (TLS)** is a [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:p:protocol|protocol]] that provides communication security between [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:c:client-server|client/server]] applications that communicate with each other over the [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:i:internet|Internet]]. It enables privacy, [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:d:dataintegrity|integrity]] and protection for the data that's transmitted between different nodes on the Internet. TLS is a successor to the [[dido:public:ra:xapend:xapend.a_glossary:s:ssl]] protocol.
