2.3 Taxonomic Views

return to Architectural Views

A taxonomy is a way of organizing things into useful and convenient classes. Each class can then be treated as an abstraction of the individual elements. For example, Dog is a class of Animal. Once an individual entity is classified as a Dog, generalizations can be made about what to expect from the individual entity.

There can be many Taxonomies that classifies entities. For example, there is a classification which places and individual in to the animal kingdom, there can also be a taxonomy that classifies an individual according to the employment (working, retired, etc.

There are four different taxonomies that are useful within a DIDO.
