4 Requirements

The term requirement first appeared in software engineering in the 1960s.1)

The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® version 2 from IIBA (BABOK),2) defines a requirement as having one or more of the following characteristics:

  1. A condition or capability needed by a stakeholder to solve a problem or achieve an objective.
  2. A condition or capability that must be met or possessed by a solution or solution component to satisfy a contract, standard, specification, or other formally imposed documents.
  3. A documented representation of a condition or capability as in (1) or (2).3)

This definition is based on IEEE Standardized vocabulary.4)
