Thank you to Tim Hood and SAP for hosting this meeting in their impressive new Hudson Yard offices and giving us a tour of their Innovations laboratory.

Allison and Grant continue to work with Artemis on the NRF Tech Council charter revisions and are targeting the end of February to have their draft completed for review by the rest of the council executive committee. There is an opportunity to meet and have this review in person at the March OMG meeting in Reston, VA.

The next NRF Tech Council Community meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 12-14, 2018 (https://www.shop.org/) during Shop.org conference. It is unclear whether we will need to register for the conference to attend the NRF Tech Council meeting. Having a meeting at NRF Protect June 11-13, 2018 is also a possibility.

Bart, John and Leo presented the current status of RFP's and RFC's in process at OMG, and how the normal submission, review and approvals processes work.

Standards Dates in the OMG process:

February 19, 2018

UnifiedPOS V2 Model And POS Printer API RFP (Initial Submission Deadline)

UnifiedPOS Version 1.14.2 RFC (RFC Public Comment Deadline)

ARTS XML Video Analytics RFC (RFC Public Comment Deadline)

March 10, 2018

UnifiedPOS V2 Model And POS Printer API RFP (Voting List Deadline)

Any new RFPs, RFC's, RFI's, vote to vote letters and charters of new SIGs or Task Forces are subject to the 4-week deadline before the Reston meeting (2/19/18). We are still working on the Fiscal Service RFP and will try to meet the February 19th deadline.

ARTS blueprints, white papers and standardized Request for Proposals are being reviewed and cleaned up, and will be posted on the Retail OMG page in the coming weeks. The Data model and warehouse are not standards, but are also posted on the OMG website. The last ARTS version of the Business Process Models (2014) are posted as well . Additionally, Richard Halter has been personally working on extending his own version of the Business Process Models and has adapted it to tie the business strategy all the way down to the data itself, far beyond the currently posted ARTS version. It includes 26 strategies with 160+ associated KPI's based on ARTS data. Contact Richard if you're interested.

We have been using Office365 to collaborate on documents, and this has been working very well. We are using the OMG wiki to keep everyone abreast of upcoming meetings and minutes of previous meetings.

Planning for 2018 continued with a discussion and brainstorming session identifying top challenges in retail today where the NRF Tech Council and OMG RDTF can collaborate. The results of this collaboration may include development of white papers (C-level and deeper), Use Case/Scenario's, existing standards applicability/updates, and Security guidance. It would be great to also include the CIO Council discussions that are happening on these topics as well.

Interesting topics;

  • Machine Learning
  • Blockchain - Guidance, Existing Standards enhancement (FIM/Supply chain), new Standards, where will Retailer's benefit
  • Voice Interaction and Interfaces
  • Micro-services Architecture
  • Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality standards for Item elements (ARTS Product Content Management)
  • Robots in retail
  • Fulfillment from store - compression of supply chain and last mile delivery - Business Process Models to support
  • Security and Privacy with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679)

The meeting concluded with a wonderful lunch provided by SAP.

We look forward to seeing everyone who can attend in Reston, or our next WebEx meeting!
