Quick overview of our open workgroup efforts for; UnifiedPOS, Fiscal API, Retail Tender and Ontology including the status of the open RFC and RFP's.
There are Finalization Task Forces(FTF) chartered by the OMG Domain Tech Committee (DTC) to receive issues submitted against Unified POS 1.15 and WS-POS v1.3.1. On Thursday the Architecture Board voted to accept the FTF finalization report for the UnifiedPOS v1.15 standard!

Microsoft made a presentation to the retail team of their Open Data Initiative, and an engaging discussion followed on how retailers could take advantage of this shared common data model, and how it may impact them. The presentation is available below.

Leonid Rubakhin lead a working session for the Retail Tender RFC starting with the elements selected from the POSLog standard, and going through several tender types and their differences. Discussion included Cash: Local vs. National vs. Foreign, what is currency, currency types, Coupons for payments and discounts, difference between mobile payments and mobile wallets.

After Lunch, John Glaubitz lead a discussion on the retail ontology in the context of the term Party and its associated roles. Minutes of this portion are available separately.

We were not able to kick off the Digital Receipt work, as the perspective chairmen were not able to attend the meeting. So after the break we continued on working on the Ontology including direct relations with the work on the Tender Types RFC.

On Thursday we started the day with a review of the Training that is now available for our Retail Standards. Richard Halter has an Introduction to ARTS over view video, and an overview video to his Retail Architecture self-paced course, as well as his book ARTS for Retail available on Amazon and Google Books

Next, Vivian Underwood presented the GS1 vision for the future of the barcode and their plans to transition to 2D product identifiers. We had lots of discussion on how this will impact retailers over the next several years, and intend to do further research identifying our standards and retail devices which will need to be updated. One strong comment was for them to include RF methods with their 2D recommendations. Her presentation is available below, and here is a link to the GS1 Digital Link Standard.

The day concluded with an interactive discussion of our future road-map. Two areas where we would like to solicit RFI's are around Blockchain and how those technologies interface with the ARTS Data Model, and next was for Printers and Scanners using 2D/RF product codes in UPOS. Additional we worked with Karen to create an agenda and survey to solicit interest in an OMG Update - Half-day meeting on Wednesday January 16th, 2019 after the NRF Big Show.

Interest areas discussed related to other OMG activities:
- Fresh Item Management collaboration with IBM/GS1/Wal-Mart
- Provenance and Pedigree collaboration for FIM and Healthcare

New Efforts:
- RFI for Printers and Scanners using 2D/RF product codes in UPOS
- RFI for a Retail DM to Blockchain API
- RFC for Retail Tender types (Service Plus + Aptos)
- RFP for Digital Receipts v4 (Toshiba/Aptos/Flex Receipts)
- RFP for Location v3 (GS1 + Lexmark)
