Polkadot is an Open Source Software (OSS) Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and Cryptocurrency

an open source, Blockchain Platform and Cryptocurrency allowing for distributed computing. The network uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) cConsensus Algorithm. The Protocol uses Blind Assignment for Blockchain Extension (BABE), is derived from Ouroboros.[3] The protocol was adapted by the Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood and is developed by the Web3 Foundation with the initial implementation by Parity Technologies.[citation needed]

In June 2021, Coinbase added Polkadot to its cryptocurrency trading platform.
